Kelsea Ballerini Calls Out 'Selfish' Chase Rice After Country Concert Controversy

Rice held a jam-packed concert in Tennessee over the weekend

Chase Rice has caught heat on social media after footage emerged of a concert he played in Tennessee this past Saturday night.

Video from the outdoor concert looked like any other show as the jam-packed crowd stood shoulder to shoulder without a mask in sight.

With coronavirus cases continuing to rapidly rise in the U.S., fellow Country musicians like Kelsea Ballerini took to Twitter to air their frustration with Rice.

“Imagine being selfish enough to put thousands of people’s health at risk, not to mention the potential ripple effect, and play a NORMAL country concert right now. @ChaseRiceMusic, We all want (and need) to tour. We just care about our fans and their families enough to wait,” she wrote.

Back in May, Rice took part in a RADIO.COM FANDEMIC and admitted he is “not a big fan of the social-distancing thing.”

“I’ll be straight up about that,” Rice said. “I just don't know if it's the right thing we should be doing - and who knows? Because of all the different messaging we're getting - or who knows what the hell to believe. So I am a big fan of 'let people decide who they want to hang out with and how many people they want to be around."

Whether or not his recent concert was already planned, Rice did hint at it during his FANDEMIC saying “I think we’ll have some stuff in June to be honest.”

The Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary in Petros, Tennessee hosted the concert and published a list of guidelines staff and attendees were to follow ahead of the show. Capacity was reduced from 10,000 to 4,000 with all guests and staff having their temperature taken before entering. The guidelines stated that only vendors and staff were required to wear masks and to do so when interacting with guests.

The venue currently has two other concerts booked with Sawyer Brown performing on July 18 and Kip Moore performing on August 1.
