Our 9 Favorite Holiday Activities Around Chicagoland!

I'm aiming to do them all this season!

October 29, 2018

Brainstorming about our favorite celebrations & activities to take in this holiday season, I got super excited this morning to Divvy by the Daley Center & see this:

  1. Can’t beat the ChristKindl market, which opens November 16th through the holidays!

    What else?

  2. How about a hot chocolate bar?! The restaurant 20 East in the Loop offers up a hot cholocate bar during brunch hours through Christmas. Grab a mug and add marshmallows, whipped cream, graham crackers, candy canes, you name it! Details HERE (click).

  3. Take the kids to Christmas Around the World at the Museum of Science and Industry. It’s a cool display and exploration of cultural holiday traditions from dozens of places all over the globe. Don’t miss the 4-story tall Christmas tree either!

  4. Zoo Lights … my favorite is the Brookfield Zoo since it’s closer to home, but the Lincoln Park Zoo does it up well too. Don’t forget the scarves & mittens because it gets COOOOOOOOLD at  night! At the LP Zoo this season, they have a light maze, various light shows, ice-sculpture carving & you can sample spiced wines too!

  5. Checking out the Chicago Christmas tree in Millenium Park, right across from our US*99 studios at Randolph / Michigan! This year’s tree came from Deborah Orth’s yard in Elmhurst… it’s 62 feet tall with a 37-foot base … a beautiful Norway Spruce. It arrives November 2nd, with Santa lighting it at the 105th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony November 16th at 6pm.

  6. Something I remember well from my childhood with my Mom taking us every year … the Nutcracker ballet! This season, the Joffrey Ballet has a new version that casts “Old Chicago” as the primary setting … 1893 to be exact, with the World Fair in town.

  7. Can’t have Christmas season in Chicago without a 5K … so why not do the Santa Hustle?! The race is December 1st (registration is open now) and they’ll have cookies, candy & Santa along the way.

  8. One more race that Jill & I have run for a few years … the Reindeer Run at the Brookfield Zoo. This year, they’ve moved it earlier to Thanksgiving weekend & you'll run at NIGHT among the lights!

  9. Want to see some lights but don’t want to go to Brookfield or downtown? Check out Illumination: Tree Lights at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle! Details HERE (click).

Happy holidays, I'm ready for it ALL!
