Very upsetting news for sandwich lovers: the Chicago based sandwich shop, Potbelly, is considering closing 100 of its stores.

The corporation divulged that sales have plummeted over 68% and after having to close their dining rooms and switch to drive-thru and curbside pickup operations only, closing a few stores is the only way the chain can survive the pandemic.

The brand has also temporarily closed 36 stores and is looking to permanently close 100, out of 427 total shops. Even with furloughing a third of all corporate employees and cutting salaries for all executives and corporate workers by 25%, the company is still drowning.

The company has not yet announced which locations are to be closed, but this is very depressing news for local Chicagoans as Potbelly has become a staple in the area.
