Many local businesses have remained open to continue to serve the community during this COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, including Great American Bagel and its two locations in Mokena and Oak Lawn.

Like all dining establishments, Great American Bagel had to change its services and is only offering drive-thru and curbside pickups, but its employees and owner are committed to helping the community and supporting all the other essential workers.

The owner of both locations, Luke Lally, is making the best out of this situation and helping those on the front line including doctors, nurses, and firefighters.

Along with his staff, Lally has begun delivering meals to various hospitals, fire stations, and doctors' offices. Even though the meals are paid for with donations made from people in the community, Lally adds extra food and beverages to the orders on his own to make sure everyone is taken care of!

Last week Lally made more than 20 different deliveries to hospitals and fire stations around the Chicagoland area, including Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, University of Chicago Hospital, the Chicago-Mt. Greenwood fire station, Little Company of Mary Hospital, Silver Cross Hospital and Lawn Medical Center.

Do not worry, Lally is not putting himself or his staff in any danger and has been taking all the necessary precautions when making deliveries. The Great American Bagel employees are met outside at a pre-arranged time by a representative of the hospital and the representative takes the food in on a cart, ensuring no one is exposed to anything.

In order to help more essential workers, Lally hosted a virtual trivia night over the weekend via Facebook that helped raised more funds for him and his employees to make more deliveries.

Lally is making sure his staff, healthcare workers, first responders, and other essential workers are being taken care of during this difficult and stressful time. #GoodVibes
