Once the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic hit and all schools closed resulting in parents having to educate their children through e-learning, many realized how essential teachers are.

Monday (5/4) started Teacher Appreciation Week and kids around the country are praising and thanking their educators for everything they do for them inside and outside of the classroom.

One local teacher, in particular, went above and beyond for her students during the quarantine and deserves the recognition.

Jeanette Gordon, a dance teacher at Whitney Young High School, went to each student's house for a socially distant visit to check on them, and to deliver a souvenir over the weekend.

Saturday was supposed to be the dance team's end of the year performance and Gordon wanted to see each of her students, cheer them on, and even give them the costume they were scheduled to wear for the routine.

She made a total of 34 stops! Her trip began at 9 am and did not end until 7 pm!

All her students were excited to see her and Gordon said that commitment to her students is just part of what it is to be a teacher.

She is planning a virtual dance performance for the team where they will be able to wear the costumes she dropped off to them! #GoodVibes
