TBT: A Look Back at Taylor Swift's Best Country Songs and Lyrics

April 24, 2019

It's here -- Taylor Swift is finally released new music Friday (April 26th) and we couldn't be happier!!

The 'Old Taylor' might be dead, but that isn’t going to stop me from walking down memory lane and reminiscing about the best T-Swift country songs and lyrics.

Before I begin, you might be wondering what credibility I have to be writing this and let’s put it this way -- I have the word “Fearless” tattooed on my ankle -- so I know a thing or two about Taylor’s songs.

1. “Teardrops On My Guitar” – Fun fact:this was the first Taylor song I ever heard, and funnily enough, my mom played it for me after hearing the DJs on US*99 talking about Taylor Swift. It doesn't matter who you are, we have all had a “Drew” in our lives -- aka crushing on someone that might not like you back. This will forever be a classic and painfully relatable song.

2. “Our Song” – For me this is a timeless ‘feel good’ song, meaning any bad mood I might have will melt away when I listen to it. I also think it is Taylor’s most-country song because her twang throughout is VERY real. The lyrics made me excited to find that 'first love' -- you know, that person you'll always think about first when you hear 'young love.' That person who will forever bring back memories of staying up late, talking on the phone til all hours of the night.

Is there a Taylor Swift/Dixie Chicks collaboration coming?

3. “Picture to Burn” – If you don’t yell the lyrics “I really really hate that stupid old pick up truck” at the top of your lungs whenever this song comes on, you’re lying to yourself. This song made 12-year-old me excited to get revenge on a guy after a break up (I know, I know -- not the bestway to handle that kind of situation... but you have to admit, it does make for a great song!)

4. “Should’ve Said No” – Now obviously this song is/was a hit, but what will forever make it iconic is Taylor's performance during the 2008 ACM Awards. She began the song in a hoodie and just her guitar, then right before the chorus her dancers tore off her outfit to reveal a dress, before eventually ending the performance with rain pouring down on the stage!I sometimes find myself re-watching it on YouTube to this day because everything about the song and the emotion in that performance are just THAT good!

5.  “Love Story” – This is the type of song that no matter what mood you’re in, when it comes on, you will turn it up and sing every word. This was Taylor’s first big crossover hit and for a period of time, you could turn on any radio station and hear it playing. Obviously, I wasn't mad about it at the time! She put a modern twist on a classic story, and I'm willing to bet, even those who say they are not ‘Swifties' still know all the words to the song.

Being the huge Taylor fan that I am, choosing my top 5 was extremely difficult and truthfully, I could probably write an entire piece on every single album and song... but we don't have time for that, we have new Taylor Swift music to listen to tomorrow!! So enjoy a few that will forever be my favorites!
