Time for a Thursday edition of Bright Bytes!

Bears fans will soon have an easier time buying beer and booze in preparation for tailgating or watching Sunday games at home with family and friends.

  • Aldermen cleared the way for more Sunday morning alcohol sales.
  • Stores with 5k square feet would now be able to start selling alcohol at 8 am.
  • Currently, city code limits early-morning sales to supermarkets with at least 10,000 square feet of space.
  • Smaller stores have to wait until 11 a.m. on Sundays.

Uber is introducing a new feature for Animal Lovers Traveling with pets.

  • Travelers have to select the Uber Pet option when booking their rides and pay a small surcharge.
  • All household pets are accepted including turtles, hamsters, caged birds, fish in bowls or bags... the service is available October 16th in a half dozen cities or so.

Really excited to share what I have been working on the last few months and announce the launch of Uber Pet today! This will provide an affordable solution for transporting your pet, while creating an additional earning opportunity for drivers. So awesome to work at a place that lets you take an idea and actually build it. #uberpet #uber #productops #gooseinanuber

For the fourth year in a row, a Wheaton man has taken home the top prize for growing the biggest pumpkin in Illinois.

  • Pumpkin grower Joe Adkins says "The biggest one we grew this year was 1,258 pounds,” and he had two other that were also nearly that heavy.
  • He says 2,000 pounds is the holy grail of pumpkins and sees pumpkin-growing as a metaphor for sports..you know as we say in Chicago, there's always next year.
  • He has been doing this competitively for 10 years.

In Sports:
