Many talk show hosts yesterday including Ellen, Jimmy Fallon, and Jimmy Kimmel opened their shows with wonderful tributes to Kobe Bryant and the other families that perished in the helicopter crash. 

New info on the investigation in what caused the helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant and 8 others.

  • Officials say the pilot pulled the helicopter up just before the crash occurred.
  • Investigators continue to look at the weather, human factor, and mechanical issues. 
  • In an effort to keep the paparazzi out, no one is allowed within 5 miles of the scene, and no aircraft is allowed within 5k feet.

Today is National Plan for a Vacation Day.

  • It's celebrated every year on the last Tuesday in January.
  • It's the perfect time to daydream about the sun, considering the cloudy, cold Chicago life we are living.
  • Each year, Americans leave more than 600 million vacation days unused.

In Sports:

  • The house that built Michael Jordan was decorated in purple and gold last night with images of Kobe on all the video boards. 

  • The Bulls beat the Spurs and honored Kobe with an 8-second violation and a 24-second violation to begin the game. 
  • Kobe will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame's 2020 class. 
    • Finalists for the 2020 class will be announced on Feb. 14 during All-Star weekend and the official class is announced in April.
    • The induction ceremony takes place in August, sure to be an emotional night.
