Katie has today's news with Bright Bytes!

A survey of red-light cameras finds they're spreading quickly in the suburbs and raking in a lot of money.

  • A new report has found that more than $1 billion has been collected from Illinois drivers over the past 10 years.
  • Annual revenue from the tickets more than doubled from 2008 to 2018.
  • One eye-opening example: Oakbrook Terrace has collected more than $9 million from two red-light cameras installed in August 2017.
    • The organization says red-light cameras do not necessarily make intersections safer as drivers slam on the brakes to avoid getting a ticket.
    • The group is advocating to get the cameras dismantled.

After about 800,000 rides and many ER visits, the Chicago scooter pilot comes to an end.

  • The city’s goal for the program was to determine if scooters would improve transportation access, reduce single-occupancy car use and provide a way to get to and from public transit.
  • Was it a success?
    • If you tried it and got where you were going unscathed, your opinion will likely be pro-scooter.
    • If you tripped over one left in the middle of the sidewalk, not so much.

Disney Plus released its catalog and the selection is even more magical than you could have ever imagined!
