After an exhaustive search, Chicago police and animal control officials were able to capture the coyote responsible for injuring two people on the north side this week

  • Video shows the animal being loaded into an Animal Care and Control van after it was shot with a tranquilizer.

  • This is our top story this week, on Wednesday a man was walking in the Gold Coast when a coyote attacked him from behind.
  • Just prior to that, a 6-year-old boy was attacked and bitten on the side of his head outside the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Lincoln Park.
    • He was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital and is in recovery in good spirits.
  • If you see a coyote, you should do the same thing you would do if you saw a bear...it’s called hazing.
    • You're supposed to make loud noises, yell at them and make yourself appear large. Coyotes are protected under state law, we are not to hurt them and to instead call 311.

Chicago health officials have reported the first child flu-related death of the flu season.

  •  It's also the first pediatric flu-related death in the state.
  • Health officials said nationwide there has been a higher number of pediatric deaths earlier in the season compared to previous years.
  • The CDC estimates that so far this season there have been at least 6.4 million flu illnesses, 55,000 hospitalizations and 2,900 deaths from flu nationally.
  • It's not too late to get your flu shot.

One auto maker is recalling over half a million cars over a safety concern...

  • Subaru issued recalls for nearly a half million vehicles to replace front air bag inflators because they can explode with too much force and hurl shrapnel.
  • Several owners can check to see if their vehicles have been recalled by keying in their 17-digit VIN on the NHTSA website.

The annual Chicago No Pants Subway Ride is this Sunday on the redline!

  • For one day each year, CTA riders can strip down to their undies and ride.
  • If you are going to participate, my tip is to invest in a nice pair of underwear.
