The New Peloton Commercial Has Caused An Internet Storm!

What's Up Chicago

December 4, 2019

'What's Up Chicago?!' gets you up to date on all the local news!

Peloton, the indoor bike start-up, has released a new holiday commercial that has caused an internet storm and now there is no turning back!

  • Social media is full of critics who are accusing Peloton of portraying negative body image, unchecked privilege, and suggest it is smacked of sexism.
  • The husband buying his wife an exercise bike seemingly unprompted -- the woman in the ad is already quite thin and critics say it seems Peloton bikes are used only by people who are already fit.
  • And lastly, the woman spends the year filming her daily bikes rides and sends them to her husband for his viewing pleasure -- No comment from Peloton yet.
  • (Of course, it's possible the fictional woman loves fitness and dreamed of owning a Peloton bike. But the internet won't allow it.)

The drama continues to unfold with Former CPD superintendent Eddie Johnson.

  • He made his first public statement since being fired earlier this week.
  • He denies that he misled Mayor Lori Lightfoot but acknowledges his lapse in judgment.
  • Video footage shows Johnson drinking with and kissing a woman assigned to his security detail.
  • When officers found him asleep behind the wheel Johnson rolled down the window partway, flashed his superintendent’s badge and drove off.
  • There is now an investigation on a possible cover-up by allies of Johnson within the department to minimize the damage.

McDonald’s is entering the chicken sandwich wars.

  • They are launching their new Crispy Chicken Sandwich in hopes of taking some chicken business from Popeyes and Chick-fil-A.
  • It's a fried chicken patty topped with butter and crinkle-cut dill pickles on a buttery potato roll.
  • There’s also a deluxe version that includes lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise.
  • For now, you gotta hit Houston and Knoxville test markets to try it.

Willie Nelson has quit smoking marijuana.

  • He is 86 years old and says he has spent a lifetime abusing his lungs and now has trouble breathing.
  • He had to cancel part of his tour this year because of it.
  • He is back to touring but says there is nothing more to be smoked.

In Sports:
