It's a Friday edition of Bright Bytes!

You have exactly one year to get a new ID in order to be able to fly within the United States.

  • Beginning October 1, 2020, every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need what is called a REAL ID-compliant driver's license, which is the state-issued enhanced driver's license.
  • Basically, when you go to the DMV, you need an additional form of residency and you get a special star on your license.
  •  if you don't have this next year, you CAN use a passport to fly within the United States, but it is HIGHLY recommended to get it sooner rather than later.

MGM Resorts International has agreed to pay up to $800 million to settle thousands of liability claims stemming from the 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas, almost exactly two years after the massacre.

  • Lawyers representing survivors and victims wanted MGM held liable for negligence because the shooter was able to enter the hotel with luggage that held an arsenal of high powered, assault-style weapons and 1000s of rounds of ammunition.

People often focus on a woman’s health when it comes to having a baby, but it turns out dad’s alcohol consumption plays a role as well.

  • Researchers looked at data from a number of studies and found that dads-to-be should avoid alcohol for six months before trying for a baby to protect their future child from birth defects.
  • They found men who drank booze before conceiving a child raised their child’s risk of heart problems by up to 44 percent.

In Sports:

  • Cardinals and Dodgers won their playoff games last night.
  • Bears and Raiders play this weekend in London
