Off-Duty CPD officer killed in River North

Early Saturday morning the Chicago Police Department faced excruciating tragedy once again, as a 23 year-old off-duty officer was shot and killed in River North.

The officer who has yet to be identified (as of publishing) would've been on the force two years in May.

Deputy Supt. Anthony Riccio said in a press conference outside of Northwestern Memorial Hospital that the officer who was killed was sitting in a car with three other individuals when two men approached the vehicle.

"One of those males pulled a gun and fired into the vehicle, striking the officer and striking another occupant inside of the vehicle," said Riccio.

The officer was shot in the mouth, chest and right arm and died from his injuries according to reporting by CBS2. The other individual who was shot was still in surgery at the time of Deputy Supt. Anthony Riccio's press conference. The other two occupants of the vehicle, another off-duty police officer and a woman, were not injured.
