Lauren Alaina announces social media break

We've all thought of doing this at times... some of us (with very strong will power) have even succeeded for awhile...

Taking a social media hiatus.

US*99 LakeShake artist Lauren Alaina said goodbye to fans (for now) -- strictly on social media. The star announced the online hiatus alongside a picture of herself as a child saying, "She didn’t know how cruel people can be or how much words can hurt, but she didn’t care what people thought of her or her boy clothes. She was happy and sure of herself." She continued on explaining that the purpose of her social media break is "to live everyday to be more like her" and find that part of herself again.

This Lauren didn’t care if she wore boy clothes. She preferred it actually. She didn’t know the future. It’s ups and downs. The happiness and pain it held. She didn’t know about heartbreak or loss. She didn’t know how cruel people can be or how much words can hurt, but she didn’t care what people thought of her or her boy clothes. She was happy and sure of herself. She knew she wanted to write songs and sing them. She loved fiercely and boldly. And most importantly, she knew how to smile through a mom bob. -- -- I want to live everyday to be more like her. I’m looking behind every rock and corner for her this year, and I’m going to find her. I’m taking a little break from social media. I’ll be back soon. Probably not in a boy’s collared shirt, but I’ll be back more like her. Much love to all of you. Thank you for your continued support. --

Lauren has been very open with fans the past two years about her previous struggle with bulimia. The disorder nearly cost the incredibly talented artist her voice. It was her "deepest, darkest secret" which influenced a lot of the music on her Road Less Traveled album.

Although Lauren first began to have an unhealthy relationship with food when she was 11, it was her appearance on the voice at 15 years-old that escalated the disorder considerably due to the pressure of being in the public eye.

“There were blogs that called me Miss Piggy,” Lauren Alaina told PEOPLE. “It’s a really hard thing to see as a teenager, especially when you already have problems... People can be vicious. It got so bad that [I was throwing up after> every meal. For a solid two to three years, I was very, very sick. It got to the point where my hair fell out."

I got to talk to Lauren Alaina at the ACMs a few years ago and I have to say she is one of THE most beautiful people I've ever met. Her happiness & excitement about her music & the country community is like this gorgeous warm aura around her -- it touches everyone she comes in contact with... she's radiant. And she's so strong.
