PAWS Chicago Offering Virtual Dog Training Courses

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Humans are now taking classes remotely, so why not dogs?

PAWS Chicago is now offering virtual dog training classes.

The PAWS Chicago Training Center virtual program offers a variety of classes from puppy classes and basic obedience and manners classes to tricks and nose work classes.

"Training is designed to develop the human-to-animal bond, improve communications skills, build confidence, reward appropriate behavior, and prevent future behavior problems," the shelter said in a statement.

While many people are adopting dogs to help with loneliness during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to train your dog to aid in socialization -  even if it may be from the comfort and safety of home.

"Dogs don't understand the COVID-19 quarantine, so they still need enrichment and training. Doing training from home, in the dog's environment, provides a unique opportunity to meet the dog's needs," said Joan Harris, PAWS Chicago Director of Canine Training and Behavior, in a statement.
